Privacy Policy

The short version: Your backups stay yours. HayBackup writes your backup data to your own drives, USB, or network shares — it never passes through or is stored on our servers. We only handle the small amount of information needed to run your account and subscription.

This policy explains what HayBackup ("we", "us") collects, why, and your choices. It covers our website (haybackup.com) and the HayBackup application.

1. Information we collect

Account information — your email address, your name (optional), and a securely hashed password when you create an account.
Subscription & billing — your plan, subscription status, and license key. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not see or store your full card number.
Software update & license checks — the app periodically contacts us to check for updates and to validate your license key. This may include your license key and a random per-install machine identifier. It does not include the contents, names, or locations of your backups.
Support communications — if you contact us, we keep your message and email so we can help.
Basic technical logs — standard server logs (e.g., IP address, timestamps) used to keep the service secure and reliable.

2. What we do NOT collect

We do not collect, receive, or store the files, drive images, databases, or websites you back up. That data is written only to the destinations you choose and never leaves your control.

3. How we use information

To create and manage your account and license.
To process your subscription and send purchase, renewal, and password-reset emails.
To deliver software updates and validate licenses.
To provide support and to keep the service secure.

4. Sharing

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us operate, under their own terms: Stripe (payments), our email delivery provider (transactional email), and our hosting provider. We may disclose information if required by law.

5. Data retention

We keep account and subscription records for as long as your account is active and as needed for legal, tax, and accounting purposes. You can ask us to delete your account (see below); some records may be retained where the law requires.

6. Security

Passwords are stored using a strong one-way hash (scrypt). Traffic to our website and license/update services is encrypted over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

7. Your choices & rights

You can access or update your account details after signing in, reset your password, cancel your subscription, and request deletion of your account. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example under GDPR or CCPA). To exercise any of these, contact us via our Support page.

8. Children

HayBackup is a business/productivity tool and is not directed to children under 16.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; we'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you.
